I am so sick and tired of the government just sitting around, trying to come up with a budget, while ordering mandatory furloughs to workers who are already struggling to make ends meet.
It is very expensive to live in California… add the cost of travel and the low wages and we’re talking stress. The transportation agencies in the area are raising their fares. I personally pay $12/day just to take a train for an hour into work and an hour home. This does not include the rising cost of gas to get to the train station or the cost of upkeep on our car.
We are now ordered to take a third furlough day — so we’re getting in essence a 15% pay cut. Isn’t that fun? I’m overjoyed! (Not!) I guess that is a little better than just having an additional 5% paycut for nothing or being laid off altogether. I am a little tired, however, of the legislation pussyfooting around and not agreeing to put an end to the budget crisis.
If they want to help to their workers, they should give the workers raises, which would increase our spending, which would in turn create demand for goods and services, which would open up jobs. But of course, the world is not black and white like that. There are other factors such as greed and laziness. Some people are greedy and will outsource jobs. Other people are lazy and won’t want to work, instead mooching off the government.
I guess I’m ranting.

I’m sure that is very stressful for you, and I hope the problem gets resolved in your favor very soon.
I just heard about the three days furlough thing on an NPR broadcast this morning. (I’ve been avoiding news alot lately, but NPR is pretty interesting. That’s probably why I hadn’t heard about it before.)
It is terrible… I hope things start getting better. Good luck.
